About the Program
If you are a licensed Registered Nurse who would like a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree, then the RN to BSN Program is for you. If you are not a nurse and would like to become one, take a look at our Traditional BSN program instead.
The Sentara College RN to BSN Program is a part-time, online program. It is designed to help working nurses like you balance your professional and home life with your educational goals.
When you choose Sentara College of Health Sciences, you join a nursing program that has provided exceptional education for over 132 years. We created Norfolk’s first nursing program in 1892 at the 24-bed “Retreat for the Sick” that has since grown into the acclaimed Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Your Educational Experience
As a student, you’ll learn online at your own pace. The program has three start dates each year, and you can finish all 30 credit hours in just five semesters. Your precepted capstone course includes the only clinical care hours, which are based upon your chosen quality care project.
Career Opportunities With Your BSN
Bachelor's-prepared Registered Nurses can enjoy greater upward mobility and more employment options than RNs who lack a bachelor's degree. In many healthcare settings, a BSN establishes you as someone deserving of notice.
Registered Nurses work in a wide variety of healthcare settings, like hospitals, clinics, long-term facilities, physician’s offices, and health agencies. Registered Nurses are in critically short supply across the country, so the need is great, and stability is exceptional.
As a Registered Nurse, you will provide and coordinate client care, working closely with the physicians and other members of the healthcare team. You will assess client needs, develop plans of care, administer treatments, provide client education, and direct a variety of multi-skilled caregivers. Registered Nursing incorporates the administration, management, and evaluation of healthcare to clients across the life span, from diverse cultural, racial, and ethnic backgrounds, and in various healthcare settings.
